Paul Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 Greetings! What should I replace my 2002, 195,000Mile, 1.9Tdi Galaxy Ghia with? Behave now, this is a serious question! :16: There are atributes of the MK2 Galaxy, which to me, are still attractive and possibly essential for a car which works hard for a living plus its domestic duties. The fully removable seats allow access to a capacious load area direct onto the vehicle floor. I have the need to carry a fairly hefty glass display cabinet plus exhibition materials and equipment for display. The Galaxy MK2 does this job handsomley. Now having had a look at the Galaxy MK3 at the local fraud dealer, my concern is with the 'almost' fold flat rear seating arrangement and the load bearing capabilities of what are essentially the seat backrests - is it up to the job? This coupled with the lack of a spare wheel is causing me to shy away from the Galaxy 3. What else is there to choose from. As far as I can make out the only choices with removable seats are the Kia Sedona  or the Seat Alhambra. So, are my fears about the Galaxy 3's load carrying capabilities founded/unfounded or should I plump for what is essentially a Galaxy 2 in a slightly fresher suit? Your thoughts and comments would be welcome. Paul Quote

Paul Posted February 9, 2010 Author Report Posted February 9, 2010 Hi Big Kev, I did'nt realise the Sharan was still avaialble, thought it was replaced with the Touran. VW Website says its still available. So I suppose its down to the indivdiual specs & prices from Vw or Seat. Thanks for the the tip. Paul Quote
ianskill Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 i definately would touch a sedona, especially the 2.9crdi. anyway,we have the 05 galaxy tdi and i keep thinking o upgrading then changing my mind as i dont like the knew shape and its configuration of seats and the engine under the bonnet doesnt appeal to me. if i ever change it would be the sharan, touran are the best looking seven seaters for me,but not big enough and no spare wheel. tim-spam Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 Alhambra is cheaper than the Sharan spec. for spec. Have you tried the latest 2.0 TDI? I think you may be pleasantly surprised - go for it! Quote
Richard gal Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 Smax, no spare unfortunatly, but they are 9" ish longer, and back seats have more headroom would you believe!... and above all drive most unlike a MPV Quote
alanfp Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 They've stopped making Sharans - new model due summer 2010. So you might be able to get a 'nearly new' or pre-reg or ex-demo current model from a main dealer. Alternatively, limited choices mentioned above, but if you want all seats removable there are also Peugeot 807Ciroen C8Renault EspaceChrysler Voyageror a bit smaller....Renault Grand Scenic - you can't remove seats 6 & 7 but they do fold properly flat into the floor. Now you may discount all of the above for various reasons (especially if you like having a car to drive rather than repair) but there are options around. Quote

Excuse my ignorance - what's wrong with the current engines? I thought they were quicker and more economical than the old 1.9 Quote
Munter Posted February 17, 2010 Report Posted February 17, 2010 ... and the engine under the bonnet doesnt appeal to me. Where would you like the engine to be then?? B) Quote
